The need to develop green economy is promoted lately more frequently nationally and internationally, gaining support from both the governments of many European countries and at the EU level.
The Moldovan government has also aligned to the development of green economy commitments, recorded in the National Development Strategy "Moldova 2020" and the National Environmental Strategy of the Republic of Moldova, but they are not directly related to green SMEs development.
Within the National Institute for Economic Research, starting with September 1, 2015, the project “Introducing a new priority policy direction “Green Economy for SMEs” in the action plan for the period 2015-2017 on the implementation of the SME sector development strategy for 2012-2020" was started, being implemented with the support of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, at the initiative and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy.
The project of the Action Plan of the 8th priority „Green economy for SMEs” for the implementation of the SME sector development strategy for 2012-2020, developed by NIER was discussed in the Working Group, composed of representatives of the Ministry of Economy, National Institute for Economic Research, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Organization for SMEs sector development, Ecological Movement of Moldova, etc. After that, it has been discussed with business, experts and civil society in 3 workshops held in last October in: Rezina, Cahul, Chisinau.
These workshops were attended by about 86 people, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Organization for SMEs development, Rezina and Cahul District Council, representatives of business associations, etc.
During the discussions at the three workshops, there have been proposed various recommendations regarding the completion of the Action Plan in order to include new priority GREEN ECONOMY FOR SMES. Following discussions and generalization of all presented proposals, the draft of the Action Plan was send to the Ministry of Economy.
