The need to develop green economy is promoted lately more frequently nationally and internationally, gaining support from both the governments of many European countries and at the EU level.
The Moldovan government has also aligned to the development of green economy commitments, recorded in the National Development Strategy "Moldova 2020" and the National Environmental Strategy of the Republic of Moldova, but they are not directly related to green SMEs development.
The project “PROMOTING BETTER ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES (SME)”

Although small businesses’ individual environmental footprint in EU Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) may be low, their aggregate impact is considerable. However, EaP countries have given little consideration to the greening of small businesses, and lack the legal, policy and institutional means to enhance the environmental performance of SMEs. The SME Policy Index report produced by the OECD, the European Commission and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 2012 recommended that EaP countries include green economy concepts in their SME programmes and strategies and provide resources for the promotion of eco-efficient business among SMEs.
On 31 of January 2014, the Council of Ambassadors of Visegrad Fund approved grant projects submitted within last year’s deadlines of Extended Standard Grants. From 23 accepted projects, the project entitled Introducing EU standards in Moldova: towards a new model of cooperation and planning has been approved.
National Institute for Economic Research implements the FP7 project "Exploring the potential for agricultural and biomass trade in the Commonwealth of Independent States"
Since January 1, 2014, the National Institute for Economic Research is implementing the project "Exploring the potential for agricultural and biomass trade in the Commonwealth of Independent States" (AGRICISTRADE). It is a part of the FP7 cooperation projects and the consortium is made up of institutions from the following countries: France, Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia, Lithuania, Austria, Belgium, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russian Federation and Ukraine.

The main objective of the project is to identify commonality and diversity in perception of Europe from the side of the EU and the nearest neighbor countries – Russia and Moldova, to propose expert recommendations on development of the EU Partnerships Strategies with neighboring countries.

In Moldova, the project "Comprehensive support of population statistics and demography developments in Moldova" was implemented by the end of 2013 year. The project is working by agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the Czech Republic on cooperation for development, signed in Chisinau, November 23, 2012, ratified by the Law no.9 from February 22, 2013.
The Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science, implements the project and the coordinator of project is Dr. Tomáš Kučera, Department of Department of Demography and Geodemography.
